Reaction to my winning Roger Ebert's Great Limerick Contest

My post to Ebert's blog concerning my win:

Wow! When I entered this contest back in November, I could not have dreamed I would come out on top with as many entries as there were.

I would like to congratulate the other winners, Gary in Phoenix and Roberta S. (thanks to Roberta, I have now learned the meaning of the words dilettante and fecund), tarotqueenk, matt, anthony barstow, chad campbell and BeccaPiano (and thanks to Becca for the mentions in a couple of her poems!)

I’d like to thank mll for letting me know of the contest, Trapper John and Barc for their encouraging me to enter, Tim Rickard, Tim Tribbett, Walter Ching, Bill Coupe, RoofTopDweller, The Arch Demon, landsend3 , sqrt(cos(180)), bluto, The Electronic Avenger, digital willie, topher, and all the other readers in the blogs where I normally post for their support and encouragement for this contest and for the other verse I have posted over the last year, along with all the other voters who only know my work from this blog.

Finally to Roger Ebert – thanks so much for a very memorable month! My family and I really got a kick out of the sentence in this post where you called Gary, Roberta, and me “Giants of Literature.” My son really enjoyed relating that to his English teacher who appeared on “Jeopardy!” last May!

In closing, one final limerick:

I am stunned that I passed Ebert’s test
And his readers said I was the best.
Though this win, I will savor,
Please, do me one favor:
Don’t anyone tell Kanye West.

RickG of the Tank also posted a little about me that day:

For those that may not know, O2BIrish has been a long time commentator to the Shark Tank blog at Computerworld, a trade magazine focusing on the high-tech world. His regular limericks on the comment sections of the blogs have brought tears of laughter to many that appreciate the finer points of the computer biz. I'm pleased to see that his more general contributions have been given such praise.

Now the browser he hates
Looks like one from Bill Gates
Which will work ‘til Mozilla upgrades it.

Yes, I came out victorious in Roger Ebert’s Great Limerick Contest! As you can imagine, I am ecstatic about winning, although the fact that I found out by reading Ebert's blog while the rest of the house was asleep at 5:00 AM on Saturday made my celebration more like Willie Mays Hayes celebrating making the Cleveland Indians in “Major League!”

Thanks to everyone for telling me about the contest, voting for me over the last month and all your comments here in the Tank! I’ll share a picture of the swag when it arrives from Chicago!

O2B - Congratulations!

I just read yesterday's tank (took an extra day off!) and saw your post. That's fantastic and well-deserved.

Allow me to add my (somewhat late) congratulations to the chorus here. You have shown that a good limerick does not have to be dirty (not that there is anything wrong with that!). Your entry was clearly the best.

O2B, I went to Ebert's site, read all the submissions, then voted for you based on the fact that your entry was tops. Nice work and best of luck in future contests. Will there ever be a day when a limerick writer can simply do that for a living and not have to work?

CAPTCHA: Prof Duran - perhaps his first name is "Duran" as well?

Congrats O2B. In my opinion, you blew the other finalists out of the water without even trying. Keep up the good work.

Captcha: Dutchmen the - shouldn't that be Flying Dutchmen?

Longtime viewer (before the Shark went to the blog format), first time posting.

I typically only scan the posts to see if you have posted a limerick.

Although I was tempted to comment after literally LOL several months ago when it was decided everyone should post anonymously and one anonymous poster (JTB) posted something like "YES, LEST ALL PSOT ANNOMYNOULSY".

So I figured, I'd include that comment in with this one.

I'll now disappear again.
